Speaking of doing helpful stuff locally... some folks here in Van are trying to arrange an outdoor arts event. They asked me if I knew any good local artists who have books etc for sale who might come for a few hours to show, sell and talk about their art. I mentioned you. I said how wonderful I think you are... I hope you'll forgive me. 😁

Gee, if only the government would solve all our problems. You know something? Ordinary citizens, such as yourself, could help a whole lot more by taking action into their own hands. You did a noble and essential deed by reporting the fire before it really got out of hand. Apparently those around you didn't have a clue (except maybe that first biker who rode by). Meanwhile, some communities organize "clean up days" for various portions of their regions. Perhaps, a "week-eater patrol" for urban forest areas would be acceptable. How about scouting out a local goat herder and having a GoFundMe site to pay the guy to have his goats eat the understory of the woods. Our governments are overwhelmed by the "needs" that everybody seems to come up with. Citizens have hands to work with and money to fund projects that could be turned into fun experiences of empowerment for communities. Give it a try!

"While the burning stump wasn’t laying any profound godly advice on me, it did cause me to grab my phone and call 911." If only Moses had an iPhone. And you're wrong; this was sublimely funny, in just the right ways. Thanks for this.

I'm glad you were there and called the firefighters! So glad it wasn't worse. A friend texted us asking about the fire in our area (we're not far from the Burnt Bridge trail) but at that time I didn't know anything about it. Glad for your update- and thanks again for calling the VFD!!
