Perhaps it’s the freezing temperatures and snow outside that’s making me a bit stir crazy, but I decided to try my hand at a comic that has far too many jokes which maybe only cartoonists can appreciate.
Just to be clear, I don’t think any of these people are actually in Hell. I just needed a fun excuse for a comic that incorporated a few drawings of my favorite illustrators and cartoonists.
So let me restate:
The master of caricature art, Al Hirschfeld, is not in Hell.
The comedic wit, James Thurber, is not in Hell.
The editorial cartooning master, Herbert Lawrence Block (Herblock), is not in Hell.
The genius illustrator, costume designer and writer, Edward Gorey, is not in Hell.
The master of the single panel cartoon, Sam Gross, is definitely not in Hell, but wherever he is there’s a high likelihood that he’s still cranking out gags by the thousands.
As for the self-deprecating E.R. Flynn, I’m not in Hell. I’m just in Winter, or is that Hell frozen over? Hmm. I guess I’ll know for sure when everything thaws.
OK, back to the laugh factory. I promise next week there will be less cartoonist in-jokes.
Stay warm,
Ed
Oh I don't know. I kinda like the cartoonist jokes.
Loved the Hirschfeld.
Edward Gorey is one of my favorites. Spot on for him. I could see him creating that illustration himself. Nice job!
