Hammer Stories - Renny's Git - Part 2
The Mostly True Humorous Tales of a Rock Band in the Early 1980s.
When last we saw Steve, Eddie O. and Cubby they were on their way to Penn Yan, New York to perform with the rest of their band, Hammer, at some dive bar. However they were nabbed by Johnny Law due to Eddie O’s rather…um…overzealous behavior.
The story now continues.
There you have it the first of many stories to come about the local Elmira, NY band called Hammer.
The boys learned two valuable lessons that day. First, was learn to maintain a low profile when traveling to a show. Smokie is always on the lookout for long haired freaks with which he can paper the walls of the jailhouse, so fly straight and don’t let loose lips sinks ships.
The second lesson learned is choose your Roadies wisely.
While the cartoonist may have exaggerated the tale a bit, the truth was that unbeknown to us, there actually were enough drugs in Renny’s guitar case that if the state trooper had searched the car, we would have possibly faced some serious jail time under the NY State Rockefeller Drug laws.
But thankfully, Steve managed to lull the trooper into a state of contentment that we weren’t major felons. We were just a group of working stiffs heading off to play music for the enjoyment of others.
Of course, had we gotten pulled over and Renny was in the car, things would’ve played out different; One look at Renny with his always sweaty, jittery and generally squirrelly character, and no doubt there would have been cavity searches somewhere in our futures.
Overall though this misadventure is just one of the many we had in this small blip of band history going under the masthead of HAMMER.
Stay tuned for more…

Is there a tape that's hidden somewhere which could be a musical soundtrack????
This comic reminds me of Dave Grohl’s recent memoir where he talks about his early touring days before he joined Nirvana
