The Big Gig Part 1 - Hammer Stories

Greeting all. I’m back. I folded up my bermuda shorts and packed away my flip flops after my little vacation from the drawing board. It’s now time to get back to the business of making comics and filling email inboxes.

Before we get down to the comics here’s just a few notes on how I reconfigured the newsletter.

First, I’ll try to keep the newsletter scheduled to Sunday mornings but honestly, when it comes to drawing these things and my work, well, that
publishing day is subject to be …um… “loose.” It’ll still be weekly but the days may vary. Think of it as a surpise, and who doesn’t like a nice surprise?

Next, at the end of every newsletter, I’m going to include a “Recommended Reads” section which will include suggested newsletters to check out. I’ll only suggest high quality stuff so as not to test your patience.

Now let’s get back to the comics and the funny business.

Today’s comics picks up from where “Hammer Stories - Practice Schmacktice-Part7 ” left off. If you want to review that storyline you can check out these PDF downloads of the comics or dig through my archive.

This continuation, “The Big Gig” will be a multi-month wild ride and I hope you enjoy it. I’ll also be splashing in other stories in order to keep things interesting.

And awayyyyy we go!

Looks like the band mysteriously appeared in the Men’s room of The Connection via some kind of Quantum Vortex. But How? Why? And what’s up with Mark saying “Alas, only king for day?” Also, how much was The Connection a bar of ill repute?

That last question I can answer. The Connection was one rough place where a person could find a fight, or the possibility of getting jumped in the parking lot.

Despite the violence, it was still a pretty fun place for a band to perform. This was mainly due to the small size of the place which made any crowd seem huge, and of course, there was the promise of free beer. Although I seem to remember that our band, Hammer, would always drink beyond our free limit, and at the end of each gig we’d have to pack up quickly and leave in order to skip out on our bar tab.

Oh, to once again have a liver with such super booze metabolizing powers!

Stay tuned. More Hammer Stories - The Big Gig is heading your way next week.
