What if Dogs Had Thumbs
A cautionary comic about canine cunning.
In my continued goal of trying to finish a collection of comics inspired by my dog, I present the following goofy meanderings.
Let us thank the stars that evolution is really slow when it comes to brains and limbs. Otherwise, humans most definitely would have a very short stint as Earth’s apex species. Of course, that standing may end soon thanks to AI. However there’s still a small window of opportunity for man’s best friend to grab that title. They only need to make one small little change in their anatomy.
I could have gone very grim with this idea, but honestly, we all currently have far too much grim reality staring us in the face. No sense in adding to that stress.
However, just for squints and wiggles, consider for a moment what would happen to our world if dogs got a lot smarter and gained the ability to build tools and/or weapons? Humans would be done for.
That’s one reason why I’ll continue to treat my little dog with as much kindness as I can muster — just in case he wakes up one day with a nice pair of super flexible thumbs.
Cheers,
Ed

Hahaha, the elderly dog owner panel was ::chef kiss::. And we often joked how much our dog would have liked to take the car through the McDonald’s drive-thru. Great comic!
If dog had thumbs, they could not only lift objects, but do bench-presses and dead weight lifts as easily as my girl here can: https://davidperlmutter.substack.com/p/canine-rage
